DeSoto - New Era of Discovery Stewardship Plan - DeSoto County, Mississippi
Website
DeSoto County is Mississippi's fastest-growing county, a rapidly-suburbanizing area just south of Memphis. It lies directly along the planned I-69/I-269 international transportation corridor, which is being built across 8 US states to provide a missing link in the North American highway network. With 11 potential interchanges planned along a very rural corridor, DeSoto wants to get planning right, taking the opportunity to direct rapid growth into building intentional communities, instead of the haphazard strip commercial or industrial districts often found along such corridors.
PlaceMatters is invovled with McBride Dale Clarion and other partners to help generate a vision for this 30-mile stretch in DeSoto County. Working with a steering committee, county leaders and the public, this is a challenging project to imagine possible futures for people who have yet to live there.
Tools and Methods
We will be using low-cost pen tables, brainstorming techniques using traditional and new methods like Brainstorm Anywhere and other methods of e-meeting engagement to get rapid and useful feedback from the steering committee and public.
Outcomes
On October 6th, we had our first public meeting to gather vision elements. The report is currently being prepared and will be available later.
