I'm in, Lyons! Comprehensive Plan Update
PlaceMatters and Civil Resources partnered with the Town of Lyons to update the town comprehensive plan. Lyons was especially interested in revitalizing its downtown, making it a destination instead of a place to drive through to reach the mountains.
PlaceMatters and Civil Resources incorporated information from a recent economic development study with extensive public input from three large public workshops to capture the Town’s vision for the future.
PlaceMatters developed an interactive website for the Update, called “I’m In, Lyons!” that included the ability for citizens to upload photos, maps, stories, art and video to the website to help express their opinions on Lyons’ existing assets and challenges, and their visions for the furture. PlaceMatters also worked with the local schools to engage students and gather their input, in person and via the “I’m In, Lyons!” website. We also offered a Youth Workshop as part of the second public workshop, where students provided their visions for the future via art and writing projects.
A draft plan of the comprehensive plan update, based on the input from the public engagement process provided by PlaceMatters, was submitted in August, 2009.
Project Goals:
- Create a comprehensive plan that reflects the unique values of Lyons
- Incorporate youth input into the comprehensive plan
