PLACEMATTERS, an independent affiliate of the Orton Family Foundation, is a living laboratory where a national network of creative practitioners come together to learn, share, inspire and seed innovation in place, collectively elevating the art and science of planning for vibrant and sustainable communities.

­susan_webphoto2 Susan brings considerable experience in comprehensive planning, landscape ecology and participatory decision making to the PlaceMatters-David and Lucile Packard Foundation Fellowship. Since 1993, Susan has applied GIS and other technologies to help communities better understand growth implications and envision alternative futures. ­

Jocelyn is the Director of Planning Solutions at PlaceMatters and works to promote environmental, economic, and social sustainability in decision-making processes.  Prior to joining PlaceMatters, Jocelyn was Program Associate for the Rocky Mountain Office of

headshot_jasonSmall Jason Lally joined PlaceMatters in January of 2008. As a city and regional planner with a background in the information sciences, Jason believes that unexplored synergies exist between the real and virtual environments. His interest is to build and implement tools that inform and expand the processes of planning and decision making.

­­KSPortrait3­Ken is a nationally recognized expert on a broad range of techn­ical and non-technical tools for community design and decision-making.  Ken is the current Chair of the American Planning Association's Technology Division and sits on the Board of the National Charrette Institute.

Prior to working for PlaceMatters, Ken worked for the Orton Family Foundation, heading up their Planning Tools Program.

John_CarneyJohn has nearly 20 years of experience working on land and water­ conservation projects and transactions.  He focused his training and work on f­ield ecology and conservation real estate and has engaged directly with protect landscapes that hel­p form the character of rural communities across Colorado. Most recently, John was the Executive Director of ­the Colorado Water Trust, a unique start-up conservation organization dedicated to protecting flow levels in Colorado’s streams and rivers.
